Specialty Foils
Aluminum is rolled by Alcan Singen of Singen, Germany, an Alcan company, to
very thin gauges ranging from .00016" (4.0 microns) to .00040" (10 microns).
These foils, rolled from alloy AA1200 (99.12%) aluminum, are supplied fully
annealed and dry. The minimum widths of our thin gauge foils vary greatly based
on the thickness of the foil, though all the foils are available from 1/2" (12.7
mm) to 25 inch (638 mm).
Thin foils are rolled and specially slit by APK, in widths down to 2.0 mm.
All the foils are alloy AA1200 (99.12%) aluminum. The minimum thickness varies
based on the desired width. All foils are slit to order in Switzerland.
Tin foils are used for capacitor applications, electro-medical devices,
electrical resistance for heating elements and a host of other electronic and
medical applications. Lead foils are commonly supplied for a variety of
specialty applications including: x-ray foils (both plain and laminated), x-ray
intensifying foils and x-ray grid foils. To meet the growing need for lead or
antimony free products, our mill has developed both lead and antimony free
alloys to meet the needs of the medical and electronics markets. Our standard
alloys include:
